SUMMARY
Responsible for the provision of the hot lunch program for the W̱SÁNEĆ Leadership Secondary School and potentially other kitchens at ȽÁU,WELṈEW̱ Tribal School, or W̱SÁNEĆ College. Key functions include purchase of groceries, nutritional menu planning, food preparation, sanitization and clean up.

SCOPE
Works under the direction of the Principals/Directors of the Schools and College and in accordance with Food Safe Practices, Good Nutrition and the W̱SÁNEĆ School Board (WSB) policy/procedures. The scope of the work includes the preparation of a hot lunch to all students and staff. Also responsible for promoting and ensuring proper nutrition and cleanliness. Employees may be required to conduct duties of the same position in alternate departments as operational needs arise.

HOURS OF WORK
7 hrs per day based on a schedule to be determined in accordance with the operational needs of the W̱SÁNEĆ School Board.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training and Certification

  • Completion of Grade 10 and one year of directly related training or experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Valid Food Safe Certificate, First Aid certificate and Criminal Record Check
  • Journeyman Cook Trade Certificate with a Red Seal Qualification preferred

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

  • Considerable knowledge of Food Safe Practices and good nutrition
  • Plan menus incorporating a variety of dietary needs, identify and cooking needs 
  • Accuracy and attention to detail with a concern for cleanliness and safety
  • Resolve routine problems and refer non routine problems to supervisor
  • Initiate and complete daily, weekly, monthly tasks and routines
  • Work as part of a team, sharing information and workload
  • Communicate verbally, clearly and constructively with staff, students and the public
